NADCAP certified; Syracuse Heat Treating has four Endothermic Atmosphere, Integral Quench Carburizing Furnaces. Working dimensions: 32" x 48" x 30"
Carburizing or carburization is a heat treatment in which low carbon steel absorbs carbon generated by an endothermic atmosphere mixed with natural gas into its surface to a specified depth determined by time and temperature, followed by quenching to achieve the desired properties (a hard outer "case" with a tough and strong "core"). Most steels specified for carburizing contain less than 0.25% carbon with sufficient alloy content to improve case and core hardenability. Case depths from as light as 0.003" to as deep as 0.125" may be specified depending on the service requirements of the product.
