Deep Freeze

NADCAP Certified; Syracuse Heat Treating has a deep freeze unit 48" x 36" x 30" that can control to as low as -150°F.  Deep Freezing or Cold Treating is primarily used to stabilize the microstructure and therefore the size and shape of a part by converting retained austenite (soft microstructure state) of steel and iron to martensite (hardened microstructure state).  Many tool steels, stainless steels and some carburized steels receive a deep freeze treatment at -90°F to -140°F before or between tempering operations.
